HOW TO LOAD A DUMPSTER

Renting a dumpster is an efficient way to keep renovations clean and junk clean outs simple and fast. But it makes sense to think ahead when filling your rented container with various debris. Read on to help you maximize your investment in the rental, stay safe, and not incur any surprise fees at the end.

DO IT RIGHT FROM THE START:

1.Break Things Down

To the best of your ability, break items down to the smallest possible state. Foam, concrete, drywall and even old furniture can be broken down. The better you able to do this, the more will fit inside — this translates to greater value for your rental.

2. Flatten Boxes

It kinda goes without saying that tossing in boxes in their ‘natural’ state will waste space. Although it’s a hassle and time-consuming, its worth the effort. Be sure you are able to get the cardboard completely flat, even with folded so it doesn’t create unseen pockets of usable space.

3. Big Stuff at the Bottom

Large items like old equipment, furniture, housing fixtures, appliance and so on should be placed in first. Once this forms a base layer, go for the smaller and lighter items. This sets you up for our next smart move.

4. Fill the Gaps

As you go along filling your container, be mindful of the gaps…no not the Metro, but empty spaces that you can utilize to your advantage. Think about the inside of items too, like the old refrigerator or oven. What about under the legs off that Barcalounger?

5. Keep it Even Keel

Distributing the weight within your dumpster can be important too. Improperly balanced dumpsters can be a hazard during transport. Should an accident occur, you could be found responsible and nobody needs that. Severely uneven weight may even cause the truck to be unable to lift your dumpster back on for transport. Can you imagine having to remove the junk to the yard to reload it?? Yikes!

6. Too High is a No Go

Flying debris during transport is another occurrence that nobody wants. Its very dangerous so be sure to not overfill your dumpster above the set limit or the top rail.
